Fall River - August 4th, 2003
RECORDED:    87 °    FISHING: Good maps
Cool water near the headwaters are holding fish. In general,  the fishing has been quite good, but the numbers of anglers seems to atest to this fact. Most of the fishing is happening around the fish hatchery. If you are willing to walk a little, wander upstream from the hatchery keeping an eye out for pods of fish working. Swarms of caddis in the late afternoon and evening and tiny mayflies all day. If you find the need to go under, try throwing a Pheasant Tail with a small Zebra Midge dropper under a pretty short indicator.
Flies to use:
Dries: PMD's, Mahoganny Duns, Dark Caddis, Midges
Emergers: PMD's, Caddis, Midges
Nymphs: Pheasant Tails, Prince, Midges, Serendipities (Red, Orange, Green)

Crooked River - August 4th, 2003
RECORDED:    86 °    FISHING: Excellent maps
This river consistantly provides excellent fishing with classic riffles and substantial structure for trout to hang out. The murky waters and minimal foliage provide a forgiving environment for the beginning fisherman. Don't forget to look in close for the rising fish before you leap into the middle of the river. By and large these fish stay fairly close to shore. This is a great river for the first time angler, little or no vegetation to obstruct your casting. Unfortunately, the people are as prodigious as the swarms of caddis. You will find fish rising all day. Look for the swarms of caddis in the late afternoon and evening and tiny mayflies all day. If you find the need to go under, try throwing a Pheasant Tail with a small Zebra Midge dropper under a pretty short indicator.
Flies to use:
Dries: PMD's, Mahoganny Duns, Dark Caddis, Midges

Metolius River - August 4th, 2003
RECORDED:    80 °    FISHING: Excellent maps
Shhh! Don't tell anyone, but the fishing has been excellent. Golden Stones and mayflies, these are the ingredients to make up a spectacular day of fishing. The bigger rainbows are keyed on them. These hatches restore your faith that there are actually fish in this river. Start with the larger attractor patterns before the hatch and then try and figure out which mayfly they are keyed on. If you want to catch a big Dolly, use nymphs down low or if all else fails, chuck a big white streamer pattern at them.
Flies to use:
Dries: Green Drake, PMD's, Mahoganny Duns, Dark Caddis
Emergers: Drake Emergers, PMD's, Caddis
Nymphs: Drake Nymphs, Stone Flies, Golden Stones, Pheasant Tails, Prince
Call the shop and ask for T.R. or Kevin to get the most up to date info on gear and bugs! 1(866) 393-7687.

We took trout on just about everything. The fishing was most consistent in the early and late parts of the day.
Flies to use:

Crooked River - July 27th, 2003
RECORDED:    100 °    FISHING: Great maps
Blah! Blah! Blah! We should rename this the Consistant River. Don't forget to look in close for the rising fish before you leap into the middle of the river. Deschutes River - Lower - July 27th, 2003
RECORDED:    100 °    FISHING: Good maps
The heat seems to affect the fishermen more than the fish. Your determination and tenacity will pay off. Don't forget to try some of the more challenging spots; it could pay off big. Fish the riffles with big comparaduns and emerger droppers! Your best bet is to fish early, stalk during the heat of the day and fish hard for that last hour before dark. You can still have a couple of good days now and then with fish up to 18-20". Try PMD's during the day and evening in the eddies and in shady sections.
Flies to use:
Dries: Stone Flies, Golden Stones, PMD's, Mahoganny Duns, Dark Caddis, creamy orange crane flies.
Emergers: PMD's, Caddis
Nymphs: Stone Flies, Golden Stones, Pheasant Tails, Prince

Deschutes River - Upper - July 27th, 2003
RECORDED:    94 °    FISHING: Poor maps
Sadly, the fishing in this stretch is all but over. However, the upper, upper sections of the Deschutes are providing rewarding days for those anglers that venture there. Most of the fish have moved up. Your best bet is to chuck streamer patterns that touch bottom. Try throwing a Black Bugger with a Prince dropper under an indicator.
Flies to use:
Dries: PMD's, Mahoganny Duns, Dark Caddis, Midges
Emergers: PMD's, Caddis, Midges
Nymphs: Pheasant Tails, Prince, Midges, Serendipities (Red, Orange, Green)
